How exactly is Proposition 8 a violation of civil rights?

I dont understand it either. I ahve nothign against ity and i think if two men want to be lovers or ina relationship thats fine. But I dont understand how they think they have the right to marry each other, thats not equal rights because two straight men cant get married so why shoult 2 gay men?
