Wouldnt giving away larger benefits be simlar for the economy as bailing out banks?

In a way it would be better. At least that money would be put back into the economy instead of a Swiss bank account. OAP's, sick, disabled, and the poor would be able to heat their homes, buy decent food, and some of the items that would make their lives easier. It will never happen though as we have this coalition government now that is too busy sharing any money left with the bankers and politburo in the EU. No money, no benefits except for those most adept at stealing it which means bankers and politicians will always end up with it all.
