Can a warrant be issued for my arrest if I was sent papers by reg mail if I dont go to a hearing?
My ex girlfriend is a paralegal in south florida and has had some legal papers drawn up and I received only via email and regular mail stating that I need to attend a hearing before a hearing officer next month because I have a 17 year old son and I haven't paid her child support in about 2 years due to rough economic times. I am not saying Im right I know Im wrong, but for 15 years of his life this was never an issue cause I never missed a payment. Now shes asking for the original order from 1992 but with 200.00 additional a month. I understand fully that I owe her and am willing to pay but this is to much. She saying that a warrant can be issued for my arrest if I don't go. I live in Atl GA and her in Ft Laud FL ? If I don't go can I really be arrested? I haven't had any contact with her. She doesn't even know if I received the papers in the mail or through e mail. I really don't want to go down there.
